It’s such a challenge to portray boredom or malaise without mimicking it onscreen, and you did it. Did you feel like this was something you had to grapple with as you were making this? Or perhaps this was simply solved by the short-film format? Can you talk about who/what the titular mother is? Is it a singular object, a feminine force, something to be feared?

Finally, not to get more inside baseball than this Q&A already is, but did I spy with my little eye some Batsheva clothing on our heroines? All of the above. But also—I’m not even sure I know what/who the mother is, and therein lies the horror. It’s like, do we ever understand what’s going on at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining?
