LOL. As you well know, Batsheva is one of my very best friends. She offered to loan us clothes, but pandemic logistics made that impossible—and in any case, it was unnecessary. Rebecca and I happen to own a lot of the same (or very similar) clothes, including the blue check Batsheva blouse you see both of us wearing in the final scene. Putting on my costume designer hat, it was merely a matter of rifling through each of our closets and locating the matchups that helped tell the story.

Finally, not to get more inside baseball than this Q&A already is, but did I spy with my little eye some Batsheva clothing on our heroines? All of the above. But also—I’m not even sure I know what/who the mother is, and therein lies the horror. It’s like, do we ever understand what’s going on at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining? For me, the best horror films are the ones where there’s some mysterious yet implacable force at work, and before you can figure out what it is, it’s taken you over. Like Facebook, to cite a real-world example.

All I’ll say is that after we wrapped, I never wanted to eat sourdough bread again. I think everyone who shot this film—me, Morgan, Rebecca, and our all-hands helper-outers Annie Schmidt and Cate Hemingway—felt the same way. Maybe the sequel will be about getting burned out on challah. And of course, Bat’s very on-brand for a movie portraying Little House on the Prairie cosplay, to quote the script. I don’t think she’d mind my saying that. Actually, not finally. Finally redux: Was any sourdough bread harmed during the making of this picture?
